Is Epcot Good For Kids?

We get asked all the time whether Epcot is good for kids and honestly Epcot gets a bad rap when it comes to kids.  Disney has put a lot of effort into making sure that your kids will have just as good a time at Epcot as the grownups.  And, at this point, Epcot has become my kids favorite of Disney's parks.

For those unfamiliar, Epcot is divided into two major areas.  The front half is Future World and is filled with rides and experiences featuring innovations of science.  While the other side is the World Showcase, divided up into 12 countries each with their own shops,  eateries, and experiences.  We love Epcot for a bunch of reasons, but here we'll break down why the kids will have a good time too.

Let's take a Ride

While Epcot does not have a ton of rides and some you wouldn't even think twice about; there is a surprising amount of entertainment for the kids. 

There are some top tier rides here at Epcot.  Any little Frozen fan will want to ride Frozen Ever After and visit with Anna and Elsa in Norway.  Remy's Ratatouille Adventure is an adorable ride the kids will fall in love with.  Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind is due to open this summer and it looks amazing!  But it's the touches in the other rides that will keep the little ones highly entertained!

Many of the other rides in Future World have interactive areas for the kids to play in after the ride.  When you get off of Spaceship Earth there is a whole area with big interactive video games that my kids just love.  There are all sorts of hands-on activities exploring your senses at the end of Journey Into Imagination with Figment.  My kids just love these weird learning opportunities in Future World.  My son was mystified by how food is grown when we rode Living With the Land.

Test Track is one of my kids' favorites.  They get to design their own cars!  They get ultra competitive about which of their cars will rate better throughout the ride.  Then afterwards, they get to do so much more with their cars.  They can race them around a simulated track and even make commercials for their car.  They just love the whole experience.

And I can never stop loving the goofiness that is Figment!  The kids get a kick out of him too!  Here's a moment from the Frozen ride, because you know the kids won't let you skip that one.

Let's go around the World Showcase!

The World Showcase is where the adults get to have a bit more fun.  There's usually a lot of good food and drink to sample all around the world ESPECIALLY during any of Epcot's Annual Festivals.  The Arts Festival, Flower and Garden, Food and Wine, and the Festival of the Holidays are just loaded with extras that make Epcot worth a visit.  But that doesn't exclude the kids from the fun out here.

Each of the festivals also has a scavenger hunt the kids can participate in. The kids get a playing piece that has stickers that match to each country. During the Festival of the Holidays we were on the lookout for little Olaf statues; he would be holding an item that pertains to that country's Holiday traditions. The kids would mark the country with the matching sticker. In the end the kids get a prize for completing the Scavenger hunt. It changes from from Festival to Festival, but we have seen decorative bowls, lenticular cups, puzzles, and other such goodies.

Also keep an eye out at each of the countries for Kidcot tables.  The kids can get a postcard and sticker for each of the countries they visit.  The Postcard has some fun facts about the country and a fun picture they can color.  It's one of the ways to keep the kids having fun while you get to enjoy the World Showcase.

Take in a little world culture while you're there. See some Taiko drummers and many other performances that happen all over the world showcase.  There's a lot to do in Epcot!

Each festival has it's own activities that the kids can have fun with.  From Art projects during the Festival of the Arts, cooking classes during Food and Wine, to Butterfly pavilions during Flower and Garden.  There's always something for them to do!

There's even a playground over in Future World if your kids still have energy to burn off!

Epcot can be open pretty late, but if your little ones can make it all the way to the end you are in for one spectacular lights and fireworks show.

Epcot's Harmonious is a pretty spectacular display of projections and fireworks located in the middle of the lake.  You can see it from anywhere around the lake, but some of the best views are from Japan in the World Showcase.

Epcot may not be for everyone, but we know it has a lot of great value for the whole family.  From cool learning experiences to touches of world culture, all sprinkled with that bit of Disney fun and magic.  We usually won't skip Epcot on our visits!
