Lunar New Year

2/6/2020

We got the chance to ring in the Lunar New Year in California.  From mid January to early February you can join these festivities at Disney's California Adventure Park.

It is a joyous celebration with tributes to Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese cultures.  This year we got to ring in the YEAR OF THE MOUSE!  So Disney had lots of special activities and food to ring in this special holiday.

FOOD!

You know Angie and I love to try out new food.  This was a great way to taste many of the flavors of Asia.  There were many booths with different food offerings.  The Purple Yam Macaron was a delicious surprise!

You could even purchase a Sip and Savor Pass that would let you get 6 food items for $42.  It's a nice little discount since each dish was between $7 and $9.

Fun Activities for the kids!

There were a variety of activities to participate in.  My favorite was adding my wish to the Lucky Wishing Wall to add my own message of hope for the upcoming year.  I of course wished for more Disney Magic for our family.

The kids loved getting their faces painted.  Zoey wanted a dragon, while Niko wanted to show his Mickey spirit with the Mouse.

The kids had lots of fun decorating paper lanterns at the kids tables.  There were several tables with activities for the kids to enjoy.

Paradise Gardens Park, located across from Pixar Pier, was loaded with decorations to celebrate this unique holiday.  The Paradise Garden bandstand had musical performers.  There were also opportunities to meet with some of our favorite characters.  Mulan and Mushu were there for a few visits, as well as Mickey and Minnie all dressed up to ring in the year of the Mouse.

If you missed the characters at the pavilion, you still could see them during the Lunar New Year Procession.  It was like a mini parade that stopped to do a performance!  We stopped to enjoy the show while eating some of our sweet treats!
Afterward we went shopping around to see all the exclusive Lunar New Year merchandise being offered at the different stands.  See our gallery at the bottom for more pics.

Before the World of Color light and water show, we got to experience the mini show for the Lunar New Year Celebration.  "Hurry Home" was a 6 minute show of a paper lantern on an adventure to find its was home to its family.
It's amazing how Disney projects these great shows onto jets of water.  The music and lighting was all well timed, with the occasional bursts of fire.

This was another fun trip to Disney!  Another great reason to visit Disneyland and take in the other side of Disney.  Keep in touch with us here at Mouse O'Clock for travel deals and reviews!
