Fa La La Fun at Magic Kingdom

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party is a great way to kick off the holidays and get in that Christmas spirit.  Loaded with Christmas cheer, what makes this special ticketed event worth it?  Why should you buy a ticket for just one night that costs almost as much as a park ticket for the whole day?

Let me breakdown all the great things you'll see and do during this special limited ticket event.
Picture
Picture
For the uninformed, Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party is a limited ticket event that take place during November and December.  By limited ticket, I mean the park is limited to roughly a third of the number of people that it would normally allow.  So one of the best features is that means way smaller crowds and MUCH lower wait times for most rides.

The party's official hours are from 7pm to 12am, but you can get in as early as 4pm.  4-6 is a pretty standard time in the park, but at 6pm regular park guests have to start heading out.  That's when ride wait times start to drop.
So even Tiana's Bayou Adventure, which is on a Virtual Queue normally, was practically a walk on experience.  It took us less than  5 minutes to walk through the queue and board the ride.  With such low crowds you can ride almost everything, or your favorite ride over and over again!
With every special event Disney does, you'll find special eats and treats that are exclusive to just the event.  Special beverages, cupcakes, even holiday beignets were just some of the special treats we tried!
Picture
Picture
Picture
There are also some rare characters that make appearances!  I had never seen Abu in the parks before!
What kind of Christmas would it be if we didn't get some snow?!?  I know I always dream of snow on Christmas Day!
We especially love the special holiday fireworks and parades that occur during the party.  Disney is famous for their parades and it doesn't get much better than a Christmas parade.  And as the world's top purchaser of fireworks you know they put on a heck of a show!
Disney knows how to add those special holiday touches to make even classic rides have some holiday cheer.  The Jungle Cruise becomes the Jingle Cruise, loaded with a ton of holiday puns.

Space Mountain had red and green holiday lights to go with cheery Christmas music while you ride through the roller coaster.  I have to say I prefer that coaster in the dark, the lights made me anxious in those tight turns.

And the Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor had a special Christmas performance that was a lot of fun.
Picture
There was a ton of fun to be had!  We had a great time at the dance party over in Tomorrowland.  Goofy has the moves!

Plus who could forget FREE Hot Cocoa and cookies!  There were several eateries in the park that were converted into Hot Cocoa and cookie spots, each with a different cookie!
No matter how you spin it, this party is worth the hype.  You could just do rides or focus on having a great Christmas celebration.  It was just delightful!

Want to plan for some extra holiday cheer next year?  Ask us to help you set it all up.  We know how to make that Disney trip awesome.  Because when it's time to plan for Disney:

Back to Oogie Boogie Bash!

We went back to Disneyland's Oogie Boogie Bash this year, and had an AMAZING time.  While these events are sold out this year it is ABSOLUTELY worth looking into for next year!

Quick review:  Oogie Boogie Bash is a limited ticket Halloween event that takes place in California Adventure.  There are a lot of extra special villains, treat trails, and a few other extras that make this a great time.

We literally left the park with roughly 20 pounds of candy between the 4 of us, thankful we planned for a way to bring it back home with us. LOL.  So follow along with us as we share our adventure at this years OOGIE BOOGIE BASH!
Rather than fight the crowds right at 4 for entry into the Party, we relaxed a bit longer and went in closer to 5:30, and made our way back to Pixar Pier.   Upon entry we were given our empty treat bags, wrist bands, and our party map.  Niko wanted to get a Memory Refresher, which is a cute ICEE style drink themed after Inside Out inside of Bing Bong's shop.   Which put us right next to Cid's treat trail location.

Treat trails are lines you walk through with many cast members handing out candy, the big ones feature a villain from your favorite Disney films.
Picture
While you don't get hugs and pictures with the characters, you do get to talk to them and interact with them.  These performers are pretty top notch.  Cid did not disappoint.  He perfectly portrayed the little psycho from the first Toy Story film.
Picture
My plans were working out really well.  We figured the lines for the villains closer to the main entrance would be loaded with people, so starting in the back end of the park was perfect.  We were the first guests in line for Cid.

We made our way around to see Yokai, the villain of Big Hero 6 over in San Fransokyo.  Went down to see Madam Mim, but just missed her as she went on break as we were walking in to the trail, no worries we caught her later that night.  I was pleasantly surprised to find two VERY rare villains doing meet and greets.  Prince John from Robin Hood AND none other than Hans from Frozen.
We later ran across the Sheriff of Nottingham in the same spot.
Picture
Picture
Of course the new Villains at Oogie Boogie have the biggest lines, so we waited for a bit to see Dr. Doofensmirtz from Fineas and Ferb.  My son was a big fan of that show, so we had to see him.

He ended up having his back to us for most of our walk-through which disappointed Niko, but we came through a second time during the last parade and there was pretty much no line.  So it was very easy to see him and a few other characters.

Having hit most of the characters we stopped pretty close to the first parade time so we took a break and waited for the parade.
Picture
This is just a piece of the parade but we got to see a lot of characters.  There's the Headless Horseman, Mickey and Friends float, Nightmare Before Christmas, and of course the Villains.
We were right by Oogie Boogie and Ernesto de la Cruz so popped by their trails and made our way to see the big bad himself, Hades!
Picture
Picture
There were only a couple of villains to catch that we had missed but during our last visit we didn't get to go into the Villian's Grove before  the kids were tuckered out.  So we had to make it there this time.  The whole  Redwood Creek Challenge area is transformed into a spooky walk-through feature, with music and lighting inspired by many of Disney's classic Villains.
We finally got to see Madam Mim (Sword in the Stone) and then walked through Avengers Campus to go see Agatha Harkness from WandaVision and her own series that just started.
Picture
Picture
There were a few other special characters that we didn't want to miss, as you can rarely find them in the parks.  Niko desperately wanted to see Mickey and Donald in their outfits from the Kingdom Hearts games!  But since we were getting tired Zoey and I went to go find some of the rare Pixar characters across the Pier.  We saw Lotso and Ember, we just missed Wade by a few seconds.
Picture
Picture
Picture
We finished off the night over at Carsland.  Riding Radiator Springs Racers at night, which we never get to do, was a real treat.  We almost always ride it first thing in the morning.  Carsland is just great with all the neon normally but add in all the Halloween decor and it's just phenomenal.  Of course Lightning McQueen, Mater, and even Cruz Ramirez were there in their costumes.  We even ran across the firetruck who's name I can never recall.
Picture
Picture
We saw so many characters during our party time, here's a ton of our photos of most of them.
We had an exhausting night, but boy was it a lot of fun.  My favorite part was just seeing all the people dressed as their favorite characters.  I saw several people dressed up as Perry the Platypus, some characters from Gravity Falls, and even a few Owl House characters.  The kids opted for comfort rather than elaborate costumes this time.

Filled with Pride!

7/3/2024

With fun festive rainbows and a general vibe of good times and acceptance, Pride Night turned out to be a sleeper hit for us this year.

Disneyland hosts special themed After Dark events throughout the year where the park closes down early for a special event party.  We had done Star Wars After Dark and decided to give Pride Night a try. Party guests got to enjoy a variety of unique treats, shows, performances, and a limited  park capacity - which translates into shorter ride wait times!

So, let the Pride Flags fly, as we share our amazing experience !
Picture
The night started out with a musical celebration of fan favorite Pride-themed music including classics like Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive", Shania Twain's "Feel Like a Woman" and Cher's "Believe." The ambience was fantastic. People were singing along and dancing, laughing and dressed up taking photos together.

The musical celebration was followed up by Disney's special Pride Nite fireworks display (video above), which started with classic Disney songs about being yourself, believing in yourself and loving yourself as you are and then transitioned into the tune of "This is Me" from the Greatest Showman soundtrack. There's something magical about being in a crowd of Disney fans just absorbing the show. People were singing along and I felt my eyes water a bit watching it all and just taking in all the feeling and joy around me.

About 15 minutes later the Welcome Pride Cavalcade (video below) came thru with colorful floats and lots of fun dancers and music.  The character's outfits were spectacular and they were so animated and having so much fun  - it was infectious!
Picture
There were a lot of unique character meet and greets with special bright Pride outfits.  The characters are always engaging and entertaining but they were just filled with a bit more energy that night. Daisy's shoes were FABULOUS pink and glittery.
And wow can Clarabelle Cow DANCE!  She was on FIRE! Check her out below! Crowds formed around her every time she stopped to dance. She was definitely a fan-favorite and had a long meet and greet line all night!
There were several dance parties happening around the park each with different DJ's.  We stopped at one to let Zoey show us her best dance moves. And of course, I made a fool out of myself dancing with her because, why not? There was no judgement, just smiles and laughter all night from everyone all around!
I am always amazed by the different treats that Disneyland cooks up for their customers.  We had several sweet treats throughout the night.  The Cereal Funnelcake was some of the best I've ever had.  It was loaded with lucky charm marshmallows and whipped cream.  The Watermelon Beignets were oddly delicious, like a sour-patch beignet.
Picture
Picture
Pride was everywhere to be found in the parks.  Rainbows were being projected everywhere.
The mood was uplifting at the park and everyone was there to have a great time.  Main Street was lit up with wonderful moving rainbows, even the Matterhorn had a rainbow cape tonight.
Final Verdict? We loved it and can't wait to celebrate PRIDE NIGHT next year!! Count us in!

Disneyland puts the Jolly in the Holiday

1/11/2024

This was one of our best trips out to Disneyland!  We had an amazing time celebrating the Holidays over in California and surprisingly it wasn't that crowded.  Not going to lie, there were crowds but it was way less than we anticipated.

Disneyland celebrates Christmas from November all the way till January 7th.  We flew in on New Year's Eve and went straight into California Adventure instead of Disneyland.  Disneyland park was going to be way more crowded so we intentionally planned it this way.  Let me breakdown our holly jolly holiday at Disneyland.  Read on for more...
Picture
Picture
It was nice and chilly during our visit, so we came prepared with warmer clothes.  We even packed some silk undershirts to keep us nice and toasty during our visit.  It sure beats sweating in the summer heat!
Picture
Picture
Christmas was still going strong here after the 25th of December.  Holiday celebrations were still in full swing, Christmas had not slowed down at all.
Picture

Disneyland has so many special treats for the Holidays that the list was a bit overwhelming., on top of California Adventure's Festival of the Holidays which also has a ton of yummy options.  So we had to try as much as possible.

You can buy these great Sip and Savor Passes for the Festival food items.  Each of the 8 tabs can be torn off to pay for a food item.  They cost $56 so it's not a huge saving but it can help if you plan on trying a lot of the special holiday foods.

There were lots of tasty options that we really enjoyed.  That Pumpkin cheesecake was yummy, the Braised Pork Belly Adobo was delicious, and this Impossible Chorizo Queso Fundido was just good!

Many of the booths had tasty drinks too!  Angie really enjoyed this Maple Hazelnut Hot Buttered Rum.  It had a great salted caramel whipped cream, yum!

Disneyland is just great for food.  We tried the new Waffle Monte Cristo, had the breakfast Chimichanga, a Peppermint Ice Cream Sundae... and so much more.  They really know how to do food.  Take a look at the slideshow for all the foods!
We saw several great parades and shows.  Disneyland's parade was huge and of course featured Santa and his reindeer.  Over at California Adventure we got to ring in the New Year watching their Feliz Navidad show with lots of bright colorful cultural dancing.
One of my favorite features of Disneyland at the holidays are the special holiday overlays they do for some of the rides.  The Haunted Mansion Holiday primarily features The Nightmare Before Christmas with Jack Skellington.  It's an adorable change and quite festive.

It's a Small World has it's own special holiday lights on the outside lighting up that whole area of Fantasyland.  But that's not all, the inside is decked out for the holidays!  The usual song is broken up with verses of Dashing Through the Snow.  It's absolutely adorable seeing it all trussed up for Christmas.
Picture

And of course we can't talk about Disneyland without talking about all the Characters we ran across!  So many in their holiday attire.  We had so many great character interactions.

Disneyland is in California after all, so they have a lot of great performers.  Look through the next slide show for all of these great characters!!!
We've absolutely grown to love Disneyland over these last few visits.  I grew up in Disney World and it will always be home, but Disneyland is just something else.

We spent 2 days in the Disneyland park and a day and a half over at California Adventure.  Even with the bit of crowds we saw we were able to get around and do everything we really wanted to.

Let us know if you have any questions about Disneyland or any other Disney vacations.  We here at Mouse O'Clock would love to make those vacation dreams come true.

Oogie Boogie knows how to Bash!

10/20/2022

Oh my Goodness, Just Wow!  You know we love Disney and Halloween.  We had a great time at Mickey's Not So Scary in Disney World, but I have to say that Disneyland's Oogie Boogie Bash was just that much BETTER!

For those unfamiliar, Oogie Boogie Bash is Disneyland's limited ticket Halloween events that run select nights from early September through Halloween.  The event actually takes place in Disney's California Adventure Park.

Tickets went on sale for these events back on June 30th and some dates sold out rather quickly.  The day we had selected sold out a few hours after they were released!  So sit back and let me tell you the tale of our trip to the Oogie Boogie Bash.
Picture
We actually went to the park early that morning.  The event wouldn't start till 6pm, but we had regular tickets to enjoy the park beforehand.

Disneyland makes sure that the Halloween decor is front and center.  Especially in Cars Land and in Paradise Gardens.  The Cars area was loaded with Halloween decoration and even had an area dedicated to the Dia De Los Muertos with an ofrenda to Doc, The Fabulous Hudson Hornet.  Lightning McQeen drove by in his costume to greet the guests.
The Paradise Gardens had been transformed into La Plaza De Familia making the whole area dedicated to the film Coco.  We stopped to take a picture with a marionette puppet of Miguel.   We rode all of the rides California Adventure had to offer before heading back to our room for a quick break before the real party began!
You could get in to the Bash as early as 3pm so we went in and enjoyed a ride or two before the party began.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout had a special holiday overlay that we just had to check out.  The ride changes from a fun Guardians themed drop, to a spooky malfunctioning elevator drop ride.  Groot is lost in the tower and several monsters are loose in the area.  The ride was definitely still fun, but I missed the usual music that was replaced with a hard rock piece.

We looked for our first trick or treat trail once the party began and was met with a delightful surprise.
Picture
Picture
In Disney World you would walk through the treat trail and run across 1 or 2 stations handing out candy.  Here in California Adventure each treat trail had between 6 and 8 stations handing out treats.

Not only were there various cast members handing out candy, there was also a Villain taunting and interacting with guests.  We were SO EXCITED!  Our first villain of the night was Agatha Harkness from Wandavision.  She was pretty funny.

We picked a street to walk down and immediately saw another line for a treat trail,  It ended up being for the legendary Ernesto De La Cruz.  His makeup was so well done!
and his laugh was just haunting.  I expected him to be jovial not scary, in a good way.
Picture
There were so many villains, but we had to try and see as many of them as possible.  We looped around to end up seeing the fabulous Mad Madam Mim and then hopped into a line to meet Minnie, Clarabelle, and Daisy dressed up as the Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus.
Picture
Seeing Minnie and company in their Sanderson outfits was the longest line we waited in all night.  We waited roughly 30-40 minutes, which was not bad considering they were new to the Bash this year.  We saw Maleficent, the new Cruella de Ville, Oogie Boogie, and Mother Gothel along various treat trails.  We even got to do a character meet and greet with Bruno from Encanto, he was so very sweet.
Picture
image from MouseInfo.com
There was even a whole area called the Villain's Grove that didn't get a chance to go into.

It's a walk-through experience where each area evokes the wickedness of different villains.  Using lights, projection mapping, sounds, and even scents to give you this ethereal experience for each villain represented on the path.
We had reservations for desserts by the parade so we had to skip the Villain Grove for now.

There are two parades during the Bash and we did get to see some of the first parade while we walked to see our next villain, but our reservation was for the second parade.

We had a table right next to the parade route.  We had a few drinks and some sweets to enjoy while the parade went by.

Unfortunately, after the Headless Horseman went by  there was a long delay.  They announced that the rest of the 2nd parade was cancelled due to technical difficulties.  It was bummer, but we were also refunded for the Dessert Party.

The combination of the stop for the parade and the long night had the kids exhausted so we called it a night.
Picture
Sadly we missed the Villain Grove and a couple of villains that night.  I had hoped to see Dr. Facilier and Sid from Toy Story but I wasn't going to push the kids when they were tired.
Picture
We had such an AMAZING time at Oogie Boogie Bash that we immediately grabbed hotel reservations for the same time next year.

The Villains, the treats, the rides, it was ALL SO GOOD.  We liked it a lot better than the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party.  The only hard part is getting the tickets for the night you wanted.  Angie and I were both waiting in the cue to make sure we got ourselves and other clients tickets as soon as they opened.  But it was so worth it!  We can't wait to go back next year.

And at last I'll leave you with a video montage of all the villains we saw that night.
Ask us any questions for all your Disney travel needs.  We're here to make that next trip a memorable one loaded with the magic of Disney.  When it's time to plan for Disney:

It's Not So Scary!

9/22/2022

We had a good time at this years Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween event.  There were villains and treats a-plenty, but there's sometimes confusion about what is included in one of these special ticketed events.  There are actually two types of events:  Special Ticketed Events and Special Ticketed After Hours Events.

You can have a Ghoulishly good time either way, but you have to know what to be prepared for.  Let me run through this years event and we can compare it to last year's Boo Bash After Hours Event to see where the differences are.  Follow me through these Spooktacular Disney events.
Picture
Picture
The great thing about these events is that everyone can come dressed in costume!  Disney is very strict with their costume rules for adults the rest of year, but here you can come dressed as the princess of your dreams; or the villain of their nightmares...

There are still some rules, like no masks, weapons, or costume pieces that drag on the floor.  We have seen some VERY elaborate costumes that some guests have come up with.

Both events also have trick or treat locations.  So you can definitely walk out of Magic Kingdom with your fill of candy.  You might have to get creative if you plan on bringing all that candy back in your suitcase.
The biggest difference between the two events is the time that they begin.  Mickey's Not So Scary begins at 7pm and runs till 12am.  Guests are allowed to start entering the park for the event at 4pm, but the Halloween fun doesn't start till 7pm.

The Boo Bash After Hours Event didn't start till 9pm, with guests entering at 7pm.  Both events technically end at midnight, but these are a soft close, so no one is rushing you out the gate.  We actually stayed till 1:30am before we finally walked out the gates.

Picture
Picture
There are all sorts of specialty Halloween themed treats that can only be purchased during these events.  Such as the Not-So-Poison Apple Pie Milk Shake, the Pain and Panic Hot Dog, and the Sweet Candy Corn Soft-serve Swirl Cone.  Every event has it's own menu of special event food that will be listed on the event map.

Now After Hours Events like Boo Bash had the added FREE snacks and drinks.  You could get bags of popcorn, bottles of water and soda, as well as Mickey Ice Cream Bars.  Getting the free sodas was a great way to caffeinate my way through late hours of the event.  Though the After Hours events aren't as nearly as long.
There is Halloween fun to be had all over the Magic Kingdom.  We visited some monsters at the Monster's Inc. Dance Party.
The stage shows are always entertaining.  And I have yet to be disappointed by the fireworks and projection shows that Disney puts out.

Disney knows how to put on a performance and Halloween is no exception.  It was really cool seeing Jack Skellington leading this portion of the show.
I can never get enough of the villains during these Halloween events.  The parade during Mickey's Not So Scary is a long one.  You get to see Villains from across the Disney pantheon as well as many of the classic characters in their Halloween costumes.

Boo Bash happened during some of the pandemic restrictions, so it limited small parade cavalcades that periodically rolled through the park.
Picture

There is a lot you can do at these events.  We enjoyed taking in the special character meet-and-greets during this event.  Fair warning that some of the rare characters can have a LONG line to see them.

Even if you are't into all the Halloween hoopla, these are LIMITED ticket events.  So that means the ride wait times at Magic Kingdom will be significantly shorter.  Many of the rides had 5-10 minute wait times.  The only ride that had an overly long wait was the Haunted Mansion.
Picture
When the rides times are this low most rides are "walk-on" rides.  It takes those 5-10 minutes just to walk through the queue to get to the ride.  This is by far my favorite aspect of the event.  When going to Disney World is a rare treat for you, these short waits feel miraculous compared to the usual long lines you can encounter in the parks.
Picture
We always have a blast at Disney, but these special events add that extra bit of magic.  Getting to navigate the park without much of a crowd at night with all the decorations is the real treat!

We've done the Christmas Special events too and they certainly add that magic of the holidays to the parks.

Let us know if you'd like to plan out your own holiday adventure at the parks!  We're always ready to help you make that dream vacation come true.

A Very Merry Magic Kingdom

6/24/2022

Picture
We often have guests ask "Are the holiday parties at Walt Disney World worth it?" Like so many other things at Disney, it really depends on your family's likes, needs and budget. Traditionally, the holiday parties are Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party (MVMCP). During the pandemic, these two parties were modified to be After Hours parties but this year, they have returned to their original time frame and glory.

These parties are considered special events and have their own separate ticket cost. They also have their own capacity limits. They take place AFTER the park closes and have a limited number of guests allowed. In these cases, Magic Kingdom generally closes at 6pm and the party officially starts at 7pm and goes till about midnight. Some dates have been known to sell-out, particularly Halloween night for MNSSHP and dates close to Thanksgiving and Christmas for MVMCP. Even though we went when the event was considered an After Hours party, there are still many similarities. In general, I believe these parties are a must if they fall within budget and your kids are old enough to partake of the later hours.

What to Expect at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party

One of the most magical things you can expect is SNOW. Yes, Disney makes it SNOW at Magic Kingdom during MVMCP. They do it several times throughout the event and when it sticks, it starts to look like REAL snow.

Another thing to remember is that this is a PARTY! There will be specialty shows and parades, including a parade down Main St. with Santa! There are special holiday themed fireworks as well as stage shows in front of the castle with music and your favorite characters. There's also a dance party in Tomorrowland.

While we were there they also had free Cocoa & Cookies around the park.
Picture

The decor and photo opportunities are pretty amazing during these holiday parties:

But Wait... there's More...

Picture
As if all the reasons above weren't enough to make you want to go, here are some other cool things to know about these parties.
  • Limited Tickets - Each event has the capacity to sell out because only a limited number of tickets are sold for each date. This keeps the crowds lower during these special events.
  • Special Merchandise & Food - Each event has special themed food and drink you can only enjoy during the party hours. They also often sell party-specific souvenirs like shirts with the party design and date.
  • Low Wait Times - At each special party event we went to, the ride wait times were drastically shorter than during the day because of the party capacity limits.

But, is it WORTH it?

The cost of party tickets can be a splurge. They tend to range from $129 - $199 per person depending on the holiday party and date. I think this is where your family needs and budget come in. The most common way I've seen to "get the most" out of these parties to work your itinerary so that you arrive and head into the party or go to a different park in the morning (like Animal Kingdom) and then head to Magic Kingdom for the party.

During these events, the party doesn't start till 7pm; however, you are allowed to enter as early as 4pm. From 4pm to 6pm, the park will be, for intensive purposes, "normal". The park then closes at 6pm and anyone who doesn't have a party wrist band is asked to leave. As soon as 7pm rolls around, the party is ON! Music and lights and all the fun begins. What this means is that if you are flying or driving in and arriving in early afternoon, you don't need a regular park ticket to enjoy Magic Kingdom you can use your party ticket to enter as early as 4pm and you can stay till Midnight. So, in this way, it's like getting an extra day of tickets that are themed to a cool event.

Another thing we've helped clients plan is if the party falls during the middle of their itinerary, they sometimes choose to do it on a "rest day" where they relax and head into the park at 4pm and do not use a park ticket that day at all, OR, they visit a park that is NOT Magic Kingdom for the morning and then "hop" over to Magic Kingdom for the party at 4pm. Most commonly, I see this with an Animal Kingdom morning, rest after a late lunch, then head back to resort to change for the holiday party at 4pm. There's no rush to show up till 7pm when it starts, so you can take as much time as you like before hand or show up right at 4pm to be let in.

Tickets for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party go on sale next week! If you want us to grab some for your vacation, let us know!

Remember, when its time to book your next Disney adventure, its Mouse O'Clock!

Boo Bash!

10/21/2021

We had a blast at this year's Boo Bash!  This year Disney decided to celebrate Halloween by throwing these Boo Bash events.  For those unfamiliar, Boo Bash is an after-hours ticketed event.  You can enter the park as early as 7pm and goes on till 12am, but honestly we stayed in the park till past 1am on our trip.

Boo Bash isn't cheap at $169 a person, but there is good reason to do this awesome event!  Why would I pay so much for such a short amount of time in the parks? Give me a moment to explain why these After-Hour Disney events are TOTALLY WORTH IT!

Picture
It's the only time adults can come to the parks in costumes!  Which is huge for any Halloween loving adult.  Yes kids can come dressed up all year long, but this is your chance.  And honestly some people go all out, so it's fun to see what some guests will come up with.
Picture
Disney limits ticket sales for these events, so the crowds are REALLY low.  At 9pm they very efficiently start ushering regular guests out of the park.  No joke, if you don't have the special event wristband Disney Cast members won't let you onto rides and will start roping off areas, leaving you no option but to start leaving the park.

With such a limited crowd the ride times drop down to almost nothing.  Most rides will display a 5 to 15 minute ride time, which is essentially nothing for these rides.  It will take you that long to walk through the attraction to actually get on the ride.  If you want to ride everything in Magic Kingdom with ease, this is an event for you.
It's also a great chance to see Disney characters in their costumes as well as some obscure Disney characters.   It's rare to see these two from Pinocchio, but there they were above us as we entered a candy line.  Yes, there is trick or treating during the Boo Bash.  They even give you a bag for candy as you enter the park.  If you love trick or treating on Halloween, then this event is for you.
Picture

Disney goes all out for the baddies on these nights as well.  There are plenty of cavalcade parades going on throughout the night, but the Villains really are the show stoppers!  From watching the mechanical Maleficent dragon roll down the street to the full cast of villains singing their way down Main Street these baddies put on a hell of a show.
While Boo Bash is in full swing there are a few extra perks you get to take advantage of, besides really short ride times.  There's a bevy of free snacks to enjoy!  Popcorn, Mickey Ice cream bars,  bottles of water, and sodas are all free to you during Boo Bash.  You know I had a couple of Mickey Bars and a load of popcorn while we walked around.  I also had to try some of the special event foods like the Foolish Mortal funnel cake.  You know I've got a sweet tooth.

Don't forget to take advantage of the Magic Shots they only offer during the event.  You can only get these special pictures after 9pm once the event starts.  They won't add these special effects ahead of time...   we asked.

Overall there is a ton of Halloween fun to be had at Disney during Boo Bash.  We LOVE Halloween, so it's perfect for our family.

These After Hour events are pretty popular, so we anticipate them being around for a while.  We are looking forward to trying this year's Disney Very Merriest After Hour events later this year.  I'm sure these events will continue to pop up next year, so keep an eye out!  They are also a great way to squeeze more time into a shorter trip.  We like to book these After-Hour events on the day we go to Animal Kingdom since that park closes earlier than the others.  You can get almost the full Magic Kingdom experience squeezed into one night.  You could even take advantage of the night you arrive in Disney to go to one of these events.

Mouse O'Clock is glad to help you book your next trip.  We'll show you how to get all that extra magic out of your next vacation!

Disney Magic of the Holidays

12/10/2020

Growing up in Florida, we've gone to DIsney World many times over the years.  I had never been during the holidays and I just HAD to go.  Christmas is all about family, but Disney celebrates the holidays from November through December.  Just like in the shops, Halloween goes down and BOOM it's Christmas.  Even with COVID, Disney is filled with holiday cheer.  The parks all get dressed up in their finest holiday decor and it just adds that extra bit of wonder.  Plus this is a cooler time for Florida so you won't be sweating nearly as much.

People would think that Disney would be empty around the Holidays, but that isn't really the case.

If you are thinking of spending the week of a holiday in the park, then you should expect crowds.  Historically the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are the BUSIEST weeks, with Magic Kingdom always hitting max capacity.  If you plan your trip for the other weeks of November and December though you can find the crowds to be pretty sparse.  We went the week after Thanksgiving and crowds were low and ride times were all mostly short.

Each park has it's own set of holiday fun.  We only went for a quick trip to visit Epcot and Magic Kingdom, but every park has it's draw during this season.  Hollywood Studios does projections on the Tower of Terror and even Galaxy's Edge does it's own celebration of Wookie Life Day.
Animal Kingdom's Tree of life has it's own holidays lighting and you can find Holiday flotillas going down the river with you favorite characters decked out for the festivities.

Magic Kingdom

The first place anyone thinks of in Disney World is Magic Kingdom.  The park is covered in wreaths and lights.  There are holiday treats and merchandise that you can only find in the parks during this season.

I loved the Fa la la la Funnel cake.  The cavalcades that are filling in for the big parades even include Santa Clause making his way around the park.

There is SO much holiday merchandise in every park, I know we went a tad overboard with purchases this time around.

Epcot - Festival of the Holidays

We were honestly concerned that the kids might not enjoy Epcot as much.  Boy were we wrong!  They had a blast, they loved trying the foods and even enjoyed the educational rides.  I had never thought they would enjoy Living With the Land...

The Festival of the Holidays begins after Thanksgiving and goes on till New Years Eve.  We got to taste a variety of foods from around the world with a distinct holiday twist.  My favorites were from the Hawaii stand.  I can never say no to the food and drinks around Epcot!  There was an extra bonus that kids just loved!
Kidcot is usually a fun little way for the kids to learn and explore the World Showcase in Epcot.  It has been modified for COVID, but the special surprise was the new Olaf's Holiday Tradition Expedition.

It was a scavenger hunt to find Olaf on his sleigh in each of the major country pavilions.  It was only $8 and you get one of three special Olaf cups for finishing it.  The kids loved looking around each country trying to find where Olaf was hidden.

This was one of my favorite trips to Disney!  It was certainly nice to visit when the weather was cold.  We had to buy my daughter a new jacket because she had underestimated how warm her jacket was.  We created a bunch of fond memories from this trip and came back with a suitcase of holiday loot.

Let us know if we can make your next trip as Merry as ours.

Lunar New Year

2/6/2020

We got the chance to ring in the Lunar New Year in California.  From mid January to early February you can join these festivities at Disney's California Adventure Park.

It is a joyous celebration with tributes to Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese cultures.  This year we got to ring in the YEAR OF THE MOUSE!  So Disney had lots of special activities and food to ring in this special holiday.

FOOD!

You know Angie and I love to try out new food.  This was a great way to taste many of the flavors of Asia.  There were many booths with different food offerings.  The Purple Yam Macaron was a delicious surprise!

You could even purchase a Sip and Savor Pass that would let you get 6 food items for $42.  It's a nice little discount since each dish was between $7 and $9.

Fun Activities for the kids!

There were a variety of activities to participate in.  My favorite was adding my wish to the Lucky Wishing Wall to add my own message of hope for the upcoming year.  I of course wished for more Disney Magic for our family.

The kids loved getting their faces painted.  Zoey wanted a dragon, while Niko wanted to show his Mickey spirit with the Mouse.

The kids had lots of fun decorating paper lanterns at the kids tables.  There were several tables with activities for the kids to enjoy.

Paradise Gardens Park, located across from Pixar Pier, was loaded with decorations to celebrate this unique holiday.  The Paradise Garden bandstand had musical performers.  There were also opportunities to meet with some of our favorite characters.  Mulan and Mushu were there for a few visits, as well as Mickey and Minnie all dressed up to ring in the year of the Mouse.

If you missed the characters at the pavilion, you still could see them during the Lunar New Year Procession.  It was like a mini parade that stopped to do a performance!  We stopped to enjoy the show while eating some of our sweet treats!
Afterward we went shopping around to see all the exclusive Lunar New Year merchandise being offered at the different stands.  See our gallery at the bottom for more pics.

Before the World of Color light and water show, we got to experience the mini show for the Lunar New Year Celebration.  "Hurry Home" was a 6 minute show of a paper lantern on an adventure to find its was home to its family.
It's amazing how Disney projects these great shows onto jets of water.  The music and lighting was all well timed, with the occasional bursts of fire.

This was another fun trip to Disney!  Another great reason to visit Disneyland and take in the other side of Disney.  Keep in touch with us here at Mouse O'Clock for travel deals and reviews!
